While those places can certainly inspire me, the truth is that the greatest source of inspiration has always been much closer to me: my childhood.

I grew up in Egypt, surrounded by colours, stories and traditions that quietly became part of the way I see the world.

When I paint flowers, they are not there simply because they are beautiful. They remind me of my childhood home, which stood next to fields filled with flowers. I remember running through the garden, watching butterflies dance from one flower to another and imagining that tiny magical creatures lived among the petals. As a child, I believed that perhaps butterflies became fairies at night. That sense of wonder has never completely disappeared, and it still finds its way into my paintings.

Nature also shaped my colour palette. The blue of the Nile, the endless skies above Egypt and the green fields I saw every day became colours that still feel familiar and comforting whenever I paint.

Another memory that has stayed with me is the presence of cats.

Cats were everywhere. They wandered through the streets with a quiet elegance that fascinated me as a child. As I grew older, I discovered the story of Bastet, the ancient Egyptian goddess associated with protection, home and joy. Since then, cats have become much more than animals in my work. They have become symbols that connect my childhood memories with Egypt’s ancient history.

Gold is another element that has always felt natural to me.

I grew up seeing gold in many different forms: in jewellery, in traditional celebrations and, most memorably, inside the Coptic Orthodox Church. The gilded icons, embroidered curtains and beautifully decorated vestments created an atmosphere unlike anywhere else. At the same time, Egypt itself has always felt golden to me—the warm desert sand, the ancient temples illuminated by the sun and the treasures of the pharaohs all seem to share the same radiant glow.

Perhaps this is why gold occupies such an important place in my art today. It reminds me not only of beauty, but also of memory, history and home.

When people look at my paintings, they often notice the flowers, butterflies, cats, gold or ancient Egyptian symbols. For me, none of these elements are simply decorative. Each one carries a memory. Each one tells a small part of my story.

I believe that every artist is shaped by the places where they grow up. Childhood leaves us with colours, textures, sounds and emotions that remain with us long after we become adults.

In many ways, every painting I create is my way of returning to those memories.

My art is not only inspired by Egypt.

It is inspired by the little girl who grew up there, dreaming among flowers, chasing butterflies and finding beauty in the world around her.

People often ask me where the ideas for my paintings come from.
